Flashback Friday: The High Numbers

Here's a classic clip of The High Numbers (AKA The Who) live at the Railway Hotel in 1964. I love seeing the fancy footwork of all those fine mod dudes. Yup, I'm feelin' this song and can't wait for my Friday night to begin - let the dancing commence! I'm going to see NoBunny tonight and will be at the Missing Monuments/Paul Collins show tomorrow night - a full weekend of rock 'n roll!

Crush: Abandoned Six Flags New Orleans

Six Flags New Orleans was closed in preparation for the force of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and has been abandoned ever since. Check out this film by Teddy Smith, filmed in October 2010. The images are haunting and beautiful. The park is scheduled to be demolished next month. via timothybuckwalter

Girl Crush: Alexandra Grecco - Fall 2010

In anticipation of the new issue of Antler (due out later this week!), I browsed back through the last issue (Vol. 3, the "Vintage" issue) this morning and read the interview with fashion designer Alexandra Grecco. Alexandra is a young Brooklyn-based designer and her Spring 2010 line was a vintage-inspired collection of lingerie, shortpants and other dainty must-haves that conjure 1920s Hollywood glamour and classic burlesque at its best. It made me want to bob my hair and don tap shoes!

My head almost exploded when I went to the website and saw this video with music by New Orleans duo The Generationals and just the right 60s Girl Group vibe, charming dance numbers and impossibly adorable outfits to lure me into ecstatic drooling. The whole thing, the entire Fall 2010 collection, is perfection. Currently, pieces of the Alexandra Grecco collections are available through her shop on Etsy.

Flashback Friday: Sugar Pie DeSanto & Barbara Lynn

I'm feeling a bit nostalgic today, so here are two of my all-time favorite soulful ladies from two of my all-time favorite cities - Miss Sugar Pie DeSanto from San Francisco and Miss Barbara Lynn from New Orleans.

Bon Voyage: New Orleans

I spent nearly a week in New Orleans for the American Planning Association's Annual Conference. I love New Orleans. I always have the best time there! Saw lots of friendly faces, ate great food and was sad to leave The Big Easy behind.
