Crush: All I Want for Christmas is a Go-Go Girl!

The last few weeks have been a blur or work, bouts of insomnia, and laying lifelessly on the couch in front of the TV. I'm hoping this clip of adorable go-go girls will help snap me out of it and get back in the groove. And ready for Christmas!

Crush: Ron Swanson!

Today, at work, I'm feeling a special oneness with Ron Swanson. If posed with the question, "Why does government matter?" I would agree with Ron. "It doesn't." He's totally my PBF.

Flashback Friday: The Mo-dettes

"No girl likes to love a wimp"? Word. I have a total girl crush on Kate Korus, American guitarist who formed The Mo-dettes in '79, was an original member of The Slits, and was briefly in The Raincoats. I also love singer Ramona Carlier's weird Swiss accent.

Crush: Mousterpieces!

The other night I watched Dinner for Schmucks. Not because I was dying to see the movie, but because I figured it couldn't be all bad given it stars Paul Rudd and Steve Carell and has cameo or supporting roles for Jemaine Clement, Zach Galifianakis and Chris O'Dowd. I mean, 3 out of 5 of those dudes are totally my PBFs (I'll let you guess which ones) and I think all of them are hilarious. Come to find out, the characters that really stole the show were the "taxidermy" mice that Steve Carell's character, Barry, creates. They were really created by the Chiodo Brothers, but you can learn more about that in the clip, above.

Crush: Laura Flook

I have a bit of a girl crush on Laura Flook. She's a mortician turned model turned fashion designer. Her collections are heavily influenced by feminine 18th century styling - high Victorian collars, lace and lots of tiny buttons. And she's kind of a total hottie. Her on-line shop is here. via refinery29

Crush: Abandoned Six Flags New Orleans

Six Flags New Orleans was closed in preparation for the force of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and has been abandoned ever since. Check out this film by Teddy Smith, filmed in October 2010. The images are haunting and beautiful. The park is scheduled to be demolished next month. via timothybuckwalter

Crush: Henry & Glenn Forever

Henry & Glenn Forever, the zine,  is available in stores now! Starring cartoon versions of Henry Rollins and Glenn Danzig as very friendly "roommates" (with Hall and Oates as their next door neighbors), it promises to be a hoot. I've been waiting to pick up a copy for several months now, but here's an animated Christmas teaser! Yay!

Crush: ZWEED

I have a crazy crush on ZWEED. They make sturdy, high-quality made-to-order shelves, sideboards and furniture in their Stockholm studio. You can visit the studio, design the modules to fit your specs and choose your color scheme - totally bad-ass!

Crush: 7 Inch Atlanta Radio's "Best Of 2010" Holiday Podcast

7 Inch Atlanta

This morning I ran across this great podcast that the kids at 7 Inch Atlanta Radio aired last week on WOLF Internet Radio, the University of West Georgia's student-run radio station. It's a "Best Of 2010" plus some Christmas classics (like Run DMC!), an interview with Jesse Smith of Gentleman Jesse and His Men, and it hits all the right spots for me. Many of the artists included on the podcast are on my Top Ten list for this year, too. Check it out here, download it from their PodOmatic page, or stream it below on their lovely PodOmatic player!

Crush: Paper Resources from Around the Globe

I think it’s safe to say I’ve always been somewhat obsessed (ok, like, definitely obsessed) with paper products, stationery and office supplies. Since I was a kid! Over the past year I’ve been finding myself perusing the same few website frequently. Checking back almost weekly to see what's new. They're sites that offer paper products that are unique and attractive, that you can’t find at the local MegaOfficeMart. Here are a few that I love from around the globe.

From the United States

Bob’s Your Uncle is a shop in Boston with lovely, modern things. All manner of paper, table goods, and organizers can be found at their on-line shop.

The Curiosity Shoppe in San Francisco carries all sorts of fun, unique things. Their store looks so damn cute. I wish they’d been around when I still lived there! But, lucky for me, I can browse their on-line shop and drool on my keyboard from here.

Felt & Wire, a curated marketplace of designer papergoods in New York state has beautiful prints, paper, fabric and other ephemera with modern flair.

Kate’s Paperie has several shops in NYC and their on-line shop is pretty great. They carry lovely bits to cater to almost anyone's sense of style - modern to traditional, always classy.

See Jane Work has upscale, designer office supplies and more as an on-line resource out of Jacksonville, FL. They carry colorful, stand-out supplies and gifts.

Paper Source in Chicago, IL is the place to look for wedding invitations, envelopes & cards, fine paper, scrapbooking supplies and gifts. Their on-line shop always has cute stuff to lust after and I can't wait to visit their store next time I'm in the neighborhood.

Olive Manna is a great on-line resource for very attractive packaging, housewares, textiles and papergoods. Beautiful basics and lots of why-didn't-I-think-of-that goodies.

From Around the Globe

Papershop has papergoods including distinctive stationery, posters and rubber stamps out of Helsinki, Finland. Their supplies are both stylish and fun.

Australian shop Letterbox Co.’s online concept store & design house has their own product range of stationery and giftwares as well as products sourced and selected from all over the world. They also do custom graphic design. I love their style.

Crush: Totally Turquoise

I'm really not sure why, but I'm entranced by all things turquoise this week. Maybe I'm mentally brightening my surroundings due to the rainy weather we've been having. Or maybe it's just a pretty color. (In any case, I'm loving Pinterest!)
